Clayton, Henry players selected to AJC’s All-State squad By Luke Strickland

JONESBORO — The Atlanta Journal-Constitution announced its 2016 All-State Football Team over the holidays.

In Class 6A, Lovejoy’s Mike Harris was named to the First Team after recording 122 tackles. Running back Zion Custis was an Honorable Mention.

Henry County was well represented on the Class 5A team. Locust Grove’s Caleb Huntley, Stockbridge’s Brenton Cox, and Woodland’s Shakur Brown and Yusef Corker were First Team selections. Honorable Mentions included Locust Grove’s Joah Curry, Dutchtown’s Micah Thomas, Ola’s Chris Rodriguez and Dylan McLoud, and Stockbridge’s Marquez Ezzard and Jalen Holston.

Riverdale quarterback Joseph Cambridge was also an Honorable Mention in Class 5A. Luella linebacker Keiston Lowery was the lone First Team selection in Class 4A.

Several players from the Class-A Prviate state champion Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy made the All-State squad, including Harrison Taylor who was chosen as Defensive Player of the Year. Kicker Alex Usry, linebacker George Shockley and defensive back Tre Douglas were First Team selections. Running back Trevor Gear was an Honorable Mention.

The AJC also produced an All-Southside team. Riverdale’s Cambridge was chosen as Offensive Player of the Year, while Stockbridge’s Cox took home Defensive Player of the Year honors. ELCA’s Jonathan Gess was named Coach of the Year after leading the Chargers to a second straight state title.

All players listed above was named to the All-Southside team. They were joined by Riverdale wide receiver Greg White, Stockbridge offensive lineman Austin Donaldson and defensive lineman Kelton Dawson, Woodland offensive lineman James Ohonba and Lovejoy defensive back Meshael Custis
